Combine columns

Join two or more selected fields into one named column. Choose a separator and whether blank source cells should be skipped.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.
Fields to combine
A spaced em dash matches the worked example; this field may be empty.

What this tool does

Selected values are joined from left to right by source column order. The original selected fields are replaced by one new column at the position of the leftmost selection. Blank values are included by default unless you enable skipping.

How to use it

  1. Select at least two source columns.
  2. Name the new column, choose a separator, and decide how blank cells should be handled.
  3. Run the operation and check sample rows before exporting.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Can I keep the original fields too?

This tool replaces the selected fields with one result column. Make a copy of your source first if both representations are needed.

What does skip blanks do?

When enabled, blank source cells are left out of the joined text, avoiding extra separators around missing values.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
