Data quality check

Inspect a CSV for blank cells, repeated records, whitespace, and uneven rows. Get a record-by-record findings report before you change anything.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.

This check is read-only. It inspects the loaded table and reports what deserves a closer look.

What this tool does

The check examines the structure and literal text of your table. It reports blank or repeated headers, row-length mismatches, whitespace around nonempty values, blank records, and exact repeated records. An empty cell is a finding, not necessarily a mistake: whether it is allowed depends on your destination.

How to use it

  1. Choose a UTF-8 CSV or TSV, paste a table, or load the fictional sample.
  2. Check the detected delimiter and read the table. The first record is always the header.
  3. Run the check, review the findings by record and column, and download the report.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Why is the record number different from a text-editor line?

The header is record 1. A quoted field can contain line breaks while remaining one CSV record. Report numbers refer to records, not physical lines.

Will it fix anything automatically?

No. The original table is only inspected. Use the separate cleaning or duplicate tool when you are ready to propose changes.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
