Summarize numeric values by category

A group summary converts many rows into one row per exact category.

Choose a category field

Groups match exact cell text and appear in first-seen order. Differences in capitalization or spaces produce separate groups. Blank labels are combined into one empty group so missing categories are visible.

Pick a metric that answers the question

Count measures records, independent of the measure column. Sum, average, minimum, and maximum use nonblank values from one measure column. For numeric metrics, a nonnumeric nonblank value stops the run rather than being silently ignored.

Validate totals before acting

Compare group counts or sums with a small known subset and consider whether blank measures should be interpreted as missing. The tool does not provide weighted averages, distinct counts, or currency-specific rounding.
