Split a field using a literal separator
A delimiter inside a parsed cell is ordinary text. Choose the exact separator your source uses.
Inspect the source pattern
Look at several records, including values with no separator, one separator, and repeated separators. The tool parses CSV quoting first, then splits the selected cell on your literal text. A comma that was correctly quoted in the source is still a comma in the cell value.
Keep empty positions visible
For a value such as west||active split on |, the middle output part is empty. That position may carry meaning, so it is not discarded. Records with fewer parts receive blank cells in the remaining output columns.
Check the widest record
The record with the most separators determines the number of new columns. Review the resulting headers and the widest row. The operation stops if it would exceed the site’s column or cell limits rather than silently truncating parts.
