Reshape a wide CSV table into long records
A wide table stores repeated measures in separate columns. A long table stores the measure name and value in rows.
Separate identifiers from values
Keep fields such as region, account, and month as identifiers. Select measure fields such as web and retail for unpivoting. Each chosen value field becomes an Attribute label, while its original cell becomes Value.
Understand how rows expand
Each input record creates one output record per selected value field. With four source records and three selected fields, the result has twelve records. Identifier values repeat so every output value remains connected to its source row.
Keep missing values visible
A blank measure cell still produces an output record with an empty Value. It is not changed to zero and is not removed. This makes the difference between a missing value and a numeric zero visible for later review.
Stay within flat-table limits
The output preserves cell text and does not infer numeric types. Check the projected record count before reshaping: a large number of source records multiplied by many value fields can exceed the row or cell limit.
