Row sorter

Sort rows by one text, finite-number, or ISO date column. Choose direction and where blank values appear; equal values keep their input order.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.

What this tool does

Text sorting compares case-folded strings with an exact-text tie break. Numeric sorting validates every nonblank value before sorting. Date sorting accepts valid YYYY-MM-DD calendar dates only. The sort is stable and never coerces cell values in the exported table.

How to use it

  1. Choose a column and whether it contains text, numbers, or ISO calendar dates.
  2. Select ascending or descending order and the edge for blank values.
  3. Sort, inspect the first and last records, and download the reordered table.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Will the row order be reproducible?

Yes, for the same input and chosen rules. Equal sort values retain their original relative order.

Are numbers converted in the file?

No. Numeric parsing is used only for ordering; exported cell text remains unchanged.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
