Import validator

Check a chosen column against required, unique, number-range, email-shape, or calendar-date rules. Export findings without modifying the data.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.

What this tool does

Validation applies to one selected column per run. Required checks treat whitespace-only cells as empty. Uniqueness compares literal, nonempty strings and counts all records in a duplicate group as needing review. Number rules accept finite decimal and exponent notation, with optional inclusive bounds. Basic email-shape checks do not confirm delivery or mailbox ownership.

How to use it

  1. Read a structurally consistent table and choose the column you want to check.
  2. Enable required or unique checks and choose a value rule. Set numeric bounds when appropriate.
  3. Run validation, inspect record-level findings, and repeat for another column as needed.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Can a blank cell be optional?

Yes. Turn off Required. Optional blanks skip type and uniqueness checks.

Are numeric bounds inclusive?

Yes. With minimum 0 and maximum 10, both 0 and 10 pass. A nonempty value still needs to be a finite decimal number.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
