Find and replace

Replace every matching phrase in one chosen column, or replace a whole cell. Set case sensitivity and inspect the changed-cell count before export.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.

What this tool does

The search is treated as literal text, not a regular expression. By default matching ignores letter case and replaces every occurrence. Whole-cell mode changes a cell only when its complete value matches. Empty searches are rejected to prevent accidental replacement everywhere.

How to use it

  1. Choose one column and enter the text to find and its replacement.
  2. Choose case sensitivity and whether to match the whole cell.
  3. Review the result preview and changed-cell count, then export a new CSV.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Does an empty replacement delete the match?

Yes. Leave the replacement field empty to remove the found text.

Can I undo a replacement?

The source text remains available in the input area. Change the rule and run again, or reload the original file.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
