Data cleaner

Trim whitespace, standardize letter case, and remove blank records with explicit rules. Inspect every proposed change before exporting a new CSV.

Fictional sample loaded for demonstration. Your file is not sent to a Rowlane server.

1. Bring in a table

CSV or TSV · UTF-8 text · up to 5 MiB, 20,000 records, and 100 columns

All values stay text, including IDs like 0017.
Quoted commas, quotes, and line breaks are preserved. Choose the delimiter if detection is wrong.

What this tool does

Cleaning runs only the options you select. Trimming removes surrounding whitespace. Collapsing spaces reduces runs of spaces or tabs inside a selected cell to one space; it does not remove embedded newlines. Case changes use JavaScript Unicode case conversion. All columns remain text, so an ID such as 0017 stays 0017 in the exported file.

How to use it

  1. Read a table with unique, nonblank headers and an equal number of fields in each record.
  2. Choose the columns and rules to apply. Case is preserved by default.
  3. Preview the proposed table and change log, then export a separate file.

2. Check the input

Confirm the header and a few records before applying a rule.

Questions

What to expect

Does exporting overwrite my file?

No. The browser downloads a new file. Rowlane does not write back to the input file.

Why are uneven rows rejected?

A missing field may indicate a broken quote or wrong separator. Transforming it without a clear mapping could change the wrong column. Inspect and correct the structure first.

Review the destination rules. A valid CSV or a clean report does not guarantee that another system will accept the file. Keep your original and verify any export before importing it.
